One of our favourite venues we have the honour of being preferred suppliers at, is the wonderful Hatfield House. It is the most fabulous venue, and in particular is a special location for a wedding. To the point that one of my cousins was married there!
There are two main venues at Hatfield House: the medieval Old Palace and the refurbished Riding School.
The Old Palace is a stunning wedding venue with a history to match. Henry VIII acquired the Palace from the Bishop of Ely in 1538 and used it as a nursery for his three children. The future Elizabeth I lived there for a number of years – and in fact discovered she was Queen of England when she was at Hatfield. The banqueting hall has beautiful wall hangings and stunning gardens make it a perfect setting and a fairytale wedding venue, and there are wonderful gardens for guests to have reception drinks (and fabulous photographs) before going into the breathtaking Old Palace. We have found acoustic musicians, such as string quartets, harpists, guitarists and duos work particularly well, to add to the special atmosphere here. And the wonderful team at Hatfield House advise where they should be best situated.
There is plenty of space in the old palace for guests to dine and to have a dance floor. The food at Hatfield House is delicious and I know the team are very helpful in providing advice for brides. We have found that having background music during dinner is wonderful; either the musicians playing during the drinks reception could move inside, or to have other musicians.
We are always excited when a bridal couple ask for a ‘surprise’ act – usually between the main course and the dessert. We put together a mash up of 20 – 30 minutes of the bridal couple’s favourite songs and create a unique entertainment experience for them. More details here.
The Riding School can be found within the beautifully designed Stable Yard and has recently been refurbished. It was once a school where horsemanship was taught and practiced, and blends historic features with modern architecture to offer an exceptionally fashionable alternative. Its glass roof with retracting blinds allows the room to be flooded with natural light, whilst the mezzanine level transforms this open plan building into two levels adding interest and flexibility as a wedding venue. Again, there is access to the beautiful gardens for your guests and the events team would be able to advise you about this.
The venue has a very high quality in built sound system and this is useful for the speeches. We have found having musicians playing on the mezzanine a lovely touch as the sound floats over the guests as they dine. This is also a perfect venue for after dinner entertainment, such as a DJ, band or ceilidh.
If you would like to discuss any live musical entertainment options for your wedding, do call us on +44 (0) 800 0938 464 or contact us. We offer a complimentary phone call or Skype call to discuss different ideas and look forward to speaking to you.
