It is always a huge honour to be involved in a charity event, raising so much money for a worthy cause. In the case of the Isabel Hospice this is a charity Viva Live Music support annually.
This year, the charity was hosting a ball with the theme of the Roaring Twenties. I was involved in advising on theming and also providing a great band for the event. And I have to say that the committee – who are all volunteers, created the most amazing atmosphere in what was a non descript venue before they started. Yes, I saw their faces when we did the site visit, and hats off to the ladies who created this incredible theming.
The event was held in a very bland marquee. The ladies covered the walls with fabrics and lights. The tables were themed with elaborate table decorations, using large feathers and candelabra. A wedding supplier kindly offered to install the lights a day before a wedding he was theming, which made a huge difference.
A bespoke performing area was created with an Art Deco theme. It was stunning and so in keeping with the theme of the event. Above are our fabulous 20s band. The first set they played 20s music, then dance music from the 50s onwards.
For pre-dinner drinks there was a reception room where guests were served cocktails, then the reveal “revealed’ the decorated room with the band playing.
Some Like it Hot was playing – on silent, during the ball.
The event, which included a silent auction, raised over £20,000. Fabulous! Congratulations to all the amazing people from The Isabel Hospice.
